Lewin’s Forcefield Analysis is a really useful tool to help us progress from where we are today.
The first thing we need to do is to define our current situation, and a worthy goal for the next part of the year. This defines the gap between where we are, and where we ought to be. Then we can list the restraining forces that are holding us back from achieving our goal, and the driving forces that are currently helping us move towards our goal.
At this point, it’s important to remember the old definition of stupidity….’doing the same things and expecting a different result’.
It’s useful to sit down with others whose opinion/s you value and develop some strategies for progress. Ask ’how do we reduce the impact of the restraining forces and how do we take advantage of the driving forces?’ This is a tool I often use in workshops to help teams work through issues or stumbling blocks.
This is certainly the time of the year to review our progress and to make some changes to achieve your desired goals, both personally and professionally.
